Just had Shire Driveways and Landscapes install a driveway and patio in Caramel Latte resin bound gravel. We are very pleased with the result it really has lifted the kerb appeal of the property. The old concrete slab and stones were looking tired and shabby now it looks absolutely amazing. Simon and his team all worked very hard to achieve this final result and many thanks to them all. Five-star service from Simon and the Shire team began with my first phone call, when he actually answered. Other landscaping companies had stolidly ignored my phone and contact form messages. How rude!

Simon came round the same day, and skilfully designed a porcelain-paved garden, easily chasing away all thoughts of us replacing our split-level wooden decking with composite.

His polite and friendly, professional and skilled team have left us with a stylish outdoor living space to be proud of, and I can’t wait to spend the summer enjoying it and showing it off.

I can’t recommend Simon and the team at Shire Driveways and Landscapes enough.

I wanted to share how genuinely impressed I am with the team who recently completed my new block-paved driveway and front area. Living on my own, having work done on your home can sometimes feel a little daunting, but from the very beginning they made the entire experience easy, comfortable, and completely stress-free.

What they achieved in just three days was honestly incredible. I went to work each day and came home to see the progress they had made, and the transformation of the front of my house is amazing. What was once an ordinary space is now a beautifully finished driveway that makes the whole property look smart, welcoming, and something I feel really proud of every time I arrive home.

The team were polite, respectful, and incredibly hardworking. They arrived early each morning, worked tirelessly throughout the day, and kept everything tidy and organised. It was clear they take real pride in their work, and the attention to detail in the block paving is outstanding. Every line is perfectly laid and the finish is absolutely first class.

Just as importantly, Simon wes reassuring, friendly, and professional throughout the whole process. He explained what they were doing, kept me informed, and made sure everything was exactly right. That level of care and respect meant a great deal.

These are genuine nice guys, the work was efficient, fast, & as you can see from the photo’s the final product looks amazing. They go above & beyond to exceed customer expectations. They are probably not the cheapest but the quality speaks for itself.

I’m a fussy customer with massive attention to detail so was watching closely whilst the guys were working and discussing details throughout, they rebuilt our front wall and the bricklayer finished it really quickly and to a really high standard. They then laid a block edging on the driveway and finished the driveway with tarmac. The finish looks great and is exactly what I was after. They turned it around really quickly and worked long days to get the job done. The pictures speak for themselves I think. Thanks guys.

Burrough-on-the Hill is a small village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Somerby, in the Melton district, in the county of Leicestershire, England. It is 12 miles (19 km) north east of Leicester. The parish church is St. Mary the Virgin. Burrough Hill is an Iron Age hill fort near the village and is in an 86-acre (35 ha) country park of the same name. The hillfort stands on a promontory around 660 feet (200 m) above sea level, 7 miles (11 km) south of the modern settlement of Melton Mowbray. In 1931 the parish had a population of 214.

The village’s name means ‘fortification on the hill’. Though later forms of Old English show that it could mean ‘the earthen fortification on the hill’.

On 1 April 1936 the parish was abolished and merged with Somerby.

The village shared John O’ Gaunt railway station with the neighbouring village of Twyford. The station is adjacent to a 14-arch viaduct. Trains used to go north to Melton Mowbray, and south to Leicester and Market Harborough, but the line was closed in the 1960s. There is a local bus service to Melton Mowbray and Oakham.

10th Battalion, the Parachute Regiment During preparations for Operation Market Garden the 10th Battalion, the Parachute Regiment were billeted in and around Somerby before setting off to join the action the day after the outbreak of the Battle of Arnhem on 18 September 1944.

The 10th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment Memorial at Burrough on the Hill was completed and unveiled in September 2019 by Friends of the Tenth. A memorial garden has also been created looking over and across to the valley where the battalion practised parachute drops and training exercises in 1944.
