Shire Driveways was tasked with transforming a large driveway area by installing 6ml dense tarmac, enhanced with silver grey cobble detailing.
To break up the expanse of tarmac and add a touch of elegance, we incorporated cobble borders, a feature path through the middle, and additional cobbled detailing at key points.
The client wanted a durable, low-maintenance driveway that wouldn’t look too plain, so we introduced strategic detailing to create a visually appealing yet functional design.
Challenges & Requirements
- The large tarmac area needed contrasting details to avoid looking too uniform.

The Installation Process
Excavation & Sub-Base Preparation:
- The existing surface was fully removed and replaced with a compacted sub-base to ensure strength and longevity.
- Drainage considerations were incorporated to prevent water pooling.
Laying the Silver Grey Cobble Details:
- Cobble edging was installed around the perimeter of the driveway to define the area.
- A feature cobble section was added in front of the house and at the driveway’s end, creating a structured look.
- A central cobble pathway was integrated to break up the tarmac and add a decorative feature.
Applying the 6ml Dense Tarmac:
- The high-quality tarmac was laid and compacted, providing a smooth, durable, and low-maintenance surface.
- The surface was levelled and finished to ensure long-term stability.
Final Touches & Detailing:
- The contrasting cobble features were checked for alignment and precision, ensuring a clean, high-end look.
- The entire surface was sealed and compacted for maximum durability and weather resistance.
The Result
